PROFESSIONAL AND PERSONAL INFORMATION

MOST INFLUENTIAL PEOPLE

Lucille Cannon -  I loved her approach to art!  She never missed the chance to compliment and encourage me.

Bevan Chipman - When I pursued my abstract work, he encouraged me endlessly--and bought my first piece!  He will always be in my heart.

Osral Allred - My first art "guru"!  Even today, I adhere to his basic beliefs of where art comes from--within.  My teaching style is greatly influenced by Osral.

Shirley McKay - She was always there when I needed a critique.  And she was constantly supportive.   I miss her as a "studio neighbor."

Rockwood Artists - Every artist at Rockwood in some way influences me.  It's such a hive of artistic energy!

THANK YOU ALL!

MINI - BIO

I have lived many years in Salt Lake City, Utah, where I pursue art for fun as well as a part-time career.  Many of my watercolor landscapes still have a tinge of New England in them--the influence remaining from my younger years growing up in Palmer, Massachusetts.

I have taught watercolor and art classes for over 15 years, sometimes as many as 6 classes a week.   Each class is exciting in it's own way--from beginning students to advanced "open studio" classes.

I am a Signature Member of the Utah Watercolor Society, a Member of Merit with the Intermountain Society of Artists, and have received a variety of awards.  In addition to awards in UWS and ISA Spring and Fall and Miniature Shows, I have earned Award of Merit in the Spring Salon, Springville, UT; 2nd Place in the Braithwaite Museum of Fine Art, Cedar City, UT; Juror's Award in Eccles Art Center Black/White Competition, Ogden, UT; as well as the Utah State Fair and others.

ARTISTIC GROWTH

I believe the most important measurement of an artist's success--one that ebbs and flows in my own work--is the ability to keep the excitement of expression alive.

"Colors of Afrika" - Mixed Media

The most recent commitment I have made is to step away from the perceptual and move deeper into conceptual art while exploring color, line and texture as a means of creating more expressive artwork.  "Colors of Afrika" is an example of this.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

With over 15 years experience, I continue to be energized by students.  Students are part of what motivates and inspires me!  Classes are in different formats depending on the student level.  More advanced or adventurous beginners participate in "open studio" classes where they work more independently.  Beginning classes are structured, hands-on and very fun!  Please join our groups!

In addition to my independent teaching, I have also done teaching demos in several art societies and taught evening classes through community schools.  I am always available for workshops.

ART-RELATED MEMBERSHIPS

Utah Watercolor Society - Early in my art career I spent many years as a board member.  I maintain current membership.

Intermountain Society of Artists -  I love this society!  It embraces artists of all mediums!

Artists of Utah -  I joined this group early in my career and maintained membership until they dissolved--it was the oldest group in Utah.

Local Colors Gallery of Utah

This is a society in a bit looser context--it is really a co-operative of  artists that maintain a gallery that is open to the public.  I am no longer participating but  feel I made many advances in my art career while a member.
