Figurative
Even when I first started painting watercolors in 1995, I was drawn to painting people. Not necessarily portraits, but people doing their work--such as potters, gardeners, musicians, and others.
I tell my students that when they paint from photos or life, they should exaggerate the postures they see. I firmly believe this is how you can create a great feeling of movement. This belief also works when painting other subjects--even trees!
